Celebration of Life for Sunny Kim

Sung “Sunny” Kim, age 63, of Aurora, Illinois, passed away peacefully on Friday, October 2, 2026. A former United States Air Force veteran, he was a devoted family man with a beaming, contagious smile, whose favorite activity was far and away golf. If he wasn’t working, he was out playing 18 holes around the Chicagoland area. When he wasn’t playing, he loved to watch golf on TV, especially the LPGA, as he was always impressed by their technique and prowess.

In the last six years, Sunny’s relationship with golf changed as both his daughter and son-in-law picked up the game. They had the opportunity to share amazing moments together learning the game from him and playing at countless courses, including Torrey Pines, Sand Hollow, Wolf Creek, and others.

More recently, as a new grandfather, Sunny was beyond excited to share his love for golf with his grandson, Remi, with the hope of one day completing the perfect foursome.

Sunny will be missed immeasurably by his family and friends, including all the random golf pairings that would have been so lucky to play with him in the future. He embodied what it means to be a golfer, always having a smile on his face and a positive outlook no matter what challenges he faced.

His family wishes to honor Sunny’s legacy and his love of the game by paying it forward. In lieu of flowers for his funeral, they invite friends and loved ones to make donations to Chicago Golf Gals, with an emphasis on growing the game he loved and got to share with his daughter and family.
